Remember the Promise You Made in the Attic

Wed Jun 25, 2008 at 10:10:26 AM PDT

Now that I have your attention, there’s a 20th Century story I’d like to tell that may assist those coping with flooding disasters in the 21st Century. The title of the diary refers to a promise citizens of Dayton, Ohio made to themselves while trapped by floodwaters in the tops of their homes.

I've posted some of this information in comments to diaries related to the current flooding situation in Iowa. But I thought it important to put it all together so anyone interested in how a community might protect itself from flooding could explore an option that doesn't include being completely dependent upon the Federal government.

(GM Plants Closing) A "prophecy" sadly fulfilled

Tue Jun 03, 2008 at 02:58:44 PM PDT

Back in 1997 I made a prophecy the Moraine GM plant (Moraine is a suburb just south of Dayton, Ohio) would close and would send a ripple effect to the area. We thought this would happen but not in our lifetime nor would it happen without a fight.

Today, oil body slammed the SUV and force former leading automaker GM to shut down four of its plants in North America. Good news that GM decided to scrap it's former business plan; bad news to an area already hurt by news of Lexis Nexis moving jobs to India and Delphi struggling to survive in this area. I made the prediction industry would dry up in this area and 20th century business would dry up.

I hate being right about things like this.

This is bigger than Ohio and Texas combined

Wed Mar 05, 2008 at 08:34:30 AM PDT

According to Kos, the likely delegate shift out of March 4th due to Texas and Ohio is... 0.

Clinton has claimed both as major victories and reasons to fight on.

Well, those reasons are gone.

My day at the Obama rally in Dayton (pics)

Mon Feb 25, 2008 at 07:58:35 PM PDT

I've seen Obama's stump speech probably three dozen times by now, and each time I hear it, I get goosebumps.  But tonight I had the pleasure of actually seeing Barack speak up close and in person, and OH... MY... GOD!!!  It was absolutely unbelievable.  And when I say up close and personal, I mean up close and personal.

The story and pics are after the jump.

(Another?)Ohio GOP Congressman caught red-handed

Mon Feb 11, 2008 at 05:53:29 AM PDT

(Disclaimer: I am not a resident of OH-03, but a friend of mine, Jane Mitakides is running against Mike Turner, so I very much like to see him defeated)

It sometimes seems to me that lost in the midst of our Presidential primary debate (as important as that is) is the fact that there is another branch of government that is equally (if not more so) accountable to We the People - Congress. Indeed, even while Clinton and Obama, McCain and Huckabee clash in the national press, the proverbial "conga beat of corruption" continues on Capitol Hill and across the country. The latest example of a corrupt Republican caught in the act is Ohio Congressman Mike Turner (OH-03, consisting of Dayton and surrounding areas). What is remarkable about Turner is not that he is corrupt, but how deeply he appears to have stuck his hand in the proverbial cookie jar.

Read on to find out more about Turner, and how deeply he is entrenched in the Party of Bob Ney, Tom Noe and Ken Blackwell...

Bush: (quote) "Be Wary of 'Abnormal Behavior'"

Fri Apr 20, 2007 at 02:29:56 PM PDT

so the decider decided to visit a high school in Dayton, Ohio --- to take FULL political advantage of the tragedy in Virginia.  It clear that Karl isnt vetting/checking/writing his "speeches" (speeches = a very loose term for what President Shitforbrains does when he opens his mouth)

i am moving around the apartment, getting ready for work this morning and up on the news comes a story, with video! about our dear leader's visit to a high school in Dayton, Ohio

normally i don't listen too carefully in the morning, and i especially don't listen when the idiot comes on..

but here is a case for --- ATTENTION LAURA, JENNA OR NOT-JENNA --- take this advice

When going gets tough for Rush the Rush gets a better signal!

Sat Oct 28, 2006 at 07:04:24 AM PDT

I haven't had much to say lately becuase I've been on the road more times than I care to. Round trips between Dayton, Cincinnati, and Columbus are the norm and not the exception. So you can imagine I hear a lot of radio on the way and I know the stations I want to hear when I a: need to get a move on or b: want to be informed over the latest from the soap opera called "Republicans in Control."

Paul Hackett joins with Stephanie Studebaker to Rally for America

Wed Jul 19, 2006 at 03:48:06 PM PDT

Today I would like to invite you to join me and my friend Paul Hackett for a very special "RALLY FOR AMERICA" on Saturday, July 29th in Dayton, Ohio.

Three years ago President George Bush rushed our country to war in Iraq while Congressman Mike Turner cheered him on. Instead of pursuing Osama Bin Laden, the man responsible for the heinous events of 9/11, our President sent our troops back to Baghdad to pursue a war without end.

We have seen the effects of this war clearly here at home. As of today, the war in Iraq has consumed 2,554 brave American patriots. Of the entire nation, only four states have lost more sons and daughters to this war than Ohio.

Dayton Daily News on the SOTU--hurt Bush with the wrong praise

Wed Feb 01, 2006 at 10:59:54 AM PDT

As an Ohio newspaper with liberal aspirations, the Dayton Daily News worries about offending desperately needed subscribers, usually managing to offend everybody instead. Their way of "praising" Bush is to compare him to . . . his father and Clinton!

Bush eyes the center; this can't hurt

It marked a turn for this presidency. George W. Bush, having once been a darling of the aggressive conservatives -- an in-your-face kind of president, ideologically speaking -- gave a speech Tuesday that turned toward the political center. It could have come from his father, of all people.
